About

Massarah is a reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer, covering refugees, immigrants and communities of color on the new Communities & Engagement Desk. Previously, she covered immigration for the Times Union and the New York State Legislature for Johnson Newspaper Corp. Massarah was a Hearst Fellow from 2017 to 2019, first reporting on immigration at the Times Union, then Houston’s diverse communities for the Houston Chronicle. She graduated from The Ohio State University in 2017 with a B.A. in journalism, Middle East studies and Francophone studies.

The daughter of Lebanese immigrants, Massarah has aspired to be a long-form writer specializing in marginalized communities since the age of 13 — exploring and exposing the nuances and experiences of people of color, and showing the world these communities are not just pawns in a game of political chess, but humans beings.
